When we talk about friendship, we always imagine something beautiful, sincere, and comforting. Since childhood, we’ve been told that friends are the family we choose. And when we’re teenagers or students, the idea of having a friend group becomes even more important. We want to feel accepted, included, surrounded. I believed in that perfect image too. I was lucky — or so I thought — to be part of a close-knit group. We laughed together, hung out after class, shared secrets. From the outside, everything looked perfect. But behind the smiles and group photos, I was living a much more complicated reality.
